Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Smythe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimmy Smythe is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Smythe!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smythe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rua swivels and escapes.
Smythe fails to land the takedown.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Rua leaves Smythe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mauricio Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Smythe.
Rua looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Smythe has managed to clinch.
Smythe has picked Rua up - he's going for a ride! Smythe dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rua works his way to full guard. Good work.
Smythe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rua is looking to stand back up but Smythe counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rua.
Rua has his hands clasped together around Smythe's back. He's all about the action.

Rua tries to kick Smythe off but Smythe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Smythe seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rua wants to get back to his feet.
Smythe tries to stand and escape but Rua is controlling the position.
Smythe decides to return to a standing position.
Smythe looks gassed!
Smythe takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Mauricio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rua takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A punch combination from Rua misses.
Some wild striking there from Rua.
Smythe slips a jab and a cross from Rua.
Smythe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rua as he avoids it easily.
Rua scores with a nice right hand.
Rua displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smythe.
Rua throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rua lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smythe backs up against the cage.
A punch combination from Rua misses.
Rua lands with a right hand.
Smythe tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rua throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smythe scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Smythe stands up out of the half guard.
Rua looks to land a combination. Smythe sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rua lands a nice shot that snaps Smythe's head back.
Smythe moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
Rua throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice sprawl there from Smythe as Rua shoots in.
Smythe moves into the clinch.
Smythe gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Smythe would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Smythe wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving.
Smythe lands a couple of digs.
Rua has a closed guard, preventing Smythe from standing up.
Smythe content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Rua has locked up a guillotine! Rua's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Smythe is holding on here and Rua must be using up a lot of energy. Smythe has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Rua gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
