Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ed Motta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Micheal Bates! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Motta throws a hook to the side of Bates's head but Bates sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Motta lands a glancing blow to the side of Bates's head.
It looks like Micheal Bates has been cut. Bates slips a straight right by Motta. Motta lands a nice hook to Bates's body. Bates takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Motta misses with a looping right. Bates shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Motta but Motta pushes him off and we're back to square one. Motta misses with a looping left. Bates bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Motta just misses with a punch to the body.
Motta misses the shot to the body. The fighters circling - Motta throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Motta throws the left hand but Bates avoids the punch easily. Motta lands a nice shot that snaps Bates's head back.
Motta swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Motta waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bates. Bates dodges the punch combination from Motta.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates moves out of range of the strikes. Ed Motta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Motta throws an overhand right that lands on Bates's shoulder, as Bates tries to avoid the shot. Motta scores with a decent looking hook. A big left from Motta misses. Motta displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bates. Motta throws an overhand right that lands on Bates's shoulder, as Bates tries to avoid the shot. Bates avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Bates takes a body punch but keeps moving. The fighters circling - Motta throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Motta lands with a cross. Motta waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bates. Motta jabbing away but nothing is landing. Bates keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bates dives in and grabs Motta's left leg, looking for a takedown. Motta pushes down on Bates's head and hops out. Ed Motta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Micheal Bates. Motta missing with a left hand there. Bates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Motta misses the jab. Motta looks to score with a jab to the body but Bates is just out of range. Motta ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Motta catches Bates with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Jab, jab by Motta - just one landing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bates moves away from the strike by Motta. Bates ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Bates uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Motta. Bates bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Motta smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Motta looks to throw the jab but Bates is out of range. Bates displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Motta throws out the jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bates slips a jab from Motta. Motta tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bates was well out of range. Poor timing from Motta. Motta misses with an uppercut. Motta missing with a left hand there. Bates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Motta ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Motta jabbing away but nothing is landing. Motta swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Bates takes one on the button.
That has opened up Micheal Bates's cut even more. Motta misses with an uppercut. Bates saw that one coming. Motta throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Motta throws a shot from downtown. Bates moves away and avoids it. Motta sizes up Bates with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Motta throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice defenses there by Bates. Motta throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Decent striking displayed by Motta there.
The cut above Micheal Bates's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Motta looks to land a right hand but Bates moved out of range. Motta cracks Bates with a good jab. Bates ducks right into an uppercut from Motta. Motta swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Bates is trying desperately to land a takedown but Motta is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Bates. Motta cracks Bates with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Micheal Bates's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Motta throws out a loose jab but Bates uses good head movement to avoid it. Ed Motta is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Bates defending well as Motta loads up on a big left hand. Motta swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Motta throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bates takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Bates moves away from the strike by Motta. A swing and a miss from Motta. Motta is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Motta throws a lazy right hand but Bates sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ed Motta dominated that round. The cut man is working on Micheal Bates's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Motta looks to throw the jab but Bates is out of range. Motta thows a left - swing and a miss! Bates ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Bates drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. A telegraphed right hand from Motta misses the target. Ed Motta is winning the standup battle so far. Bates uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Motta. Motta drops Bates with a beautiful combination! Bates stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Motta is looking for the KO!
Bates is rocked!
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Micheal Bates's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ed Motta!
