PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gold T (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Jones told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gold T!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Jones!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
T shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
T misses with a few strikes there.

T bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones wants to control but T postures up.
Jones tries to improve position but can't.
Jones sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jones keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jones trying to control from the bottom.
Jones won't allow T to pass to mount.
T not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jones wants to control but T is keeping busy and won't allow it.

T working the head and body with strikes.
Jones tries to roll over but T keeps him under control.
T slows the pace down in half guard.
Jones flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
T is thwarting Jones's attempts to control the position.
T is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
Jones is trying to stand.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of T's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take T's back!
T looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones cracks T with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing T from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Jones controls the action.
Jones looks gassed!
T has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
A lull in the action here.
T trying to control the hands but Jones won't let him.
T manages to reverse the position and now he's in Jones's guard. Nice work there by T.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
T with a flurry of punches that miss.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
T works over Jones with some ground and pound from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
T stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

T throws a big right hand that misses.
Jones is trying to keep T in close.
T has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jones is trying to hold T in close to prevent damage but T has managed to pass into half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
T lands strikes from half guard.
Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jones is pressing down on T's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jones trying to control the position.
T is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
T slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Jones is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! T's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown

and T counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by T.
Jones is wriggling around but T manages to pass to half guard.
Jones wants to control but T is keeping busy.
Jones has hold of T's hands but T slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
T takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jones on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
T working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

T prevents Jones from improving his position.
T wants to pass the guard but Jones is defending well.
Ground and pound from T.
Jones tries to roll over but T keeps him under control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by T.
T has his takedown stuffed
and Jones counters with a nice body kick.

T gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jones to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Jones prevents T from getting back to his feet.

T wriggles free and stands up.
T throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
T is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones.
T closes the distance but Jones moves to the side
and Jones makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Gold T has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jones.
Jones scores with a push kick.
T gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jones moves into the clinch.

T has picked Jones up - he's going for a ride! T dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Jones on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jones is looking to control T's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?
T working over Jones with some ground and pound. Jones looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jones is trying to control but can't.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as T sits in half guard.
T blocks the strikes from Jones.
Jones trying to hold on to T's head to control him but T postures up.
Jones wants to improve his position but T is controlling well.

Jones has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes T off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
T stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

and T counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.
Gold T overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
T scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and T defends well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



T shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones tries to kick T off but T keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Jones is looking to control T's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as T sits in half guard.
T is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
T wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of T's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take T's back!

Jones really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for T.
Jones wants to control but T manages to buck him off and is now in Jones's guard! Nice work there by T!
Jones preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
T postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

T pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones is keeping the position for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jones wants to stand up but T is controlling him.
T not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for T!
Jones prevents T from getting the reversal.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as T is looking to escape.

Jones lands with some strikes.
Jones misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Jones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. T can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Jones misses with a head shot.
Jones scoring with strikes but T is staying in there.
T tries to improve his position but instead Jones has taken his back!
T staying busy and making it hard for Jones to control.
T looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Will Jones go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jones is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

T breaks Jones's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
T makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as T accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
T trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
T slips nicely into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think T has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
