Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marko Mikonnen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Danko! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mikonnen gets a takedown into half guard. Danko is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Danko is looking to improve his position.
Mikonnen wants to stand up but Danko has a hold of him and won't allow it. Mikonnen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Danko defending well though. Mikonnen is looking to advance position but Danko won't allow it. Danko is not content to let Mikonnen control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Danko pushes Mikonnen off looking to stand but Mikonnen dives back in and keeps control.
Danko is trying to get back to full guard. Danko looks gassed! Mikonnen is looking to take a break and control but Danko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mikonnen has managed to clinch.
Mikonnen lands an uppercut. Danko is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Mikonnen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mikonnen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Mikonnen just leaning against Danko, taking a breather. Mikonnen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Danko darts in trying to clinch and Mikonnen moves into the clinch. Mikonnen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mikonnen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Mikonnen tries to free his leg and advance position but Danko is retaining full guard. Mikonnen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mikonnen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Danko for as long as he can get away with. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mikonnen is working Danko over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mikonnen controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Mikonnen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mikonnen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Danko was covering up waiting for the punch and Mikonnen finishes the takedown easily into guard. Mikonnen stopping the sweep attempt from Danko. Mikonnen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mikonnen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Danko is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mikonnen is aware though and is defending well. Mikonnen preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mikonnen wants to control from the top but Danko keeps moving. Mikonnen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Danko on the ground. Mikonnen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Danko's head. Mikonnen wants to pass the guard but Danko is keeping the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mikonnen lands a slapping body shot.
Danko with a poor takedown and Mikonnen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Danko! Mikonnen avoids the attempt from Danko to control. Mikonnen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Danko is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marko Mikonnen dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Danko with a lazy takedown attempt and Mikonnen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Danko! Mikonnen controlling the pace for now. Danko in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Mikonnen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mikonnen has hold of Danko's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Danko manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mikonnen content just to control the position here. Danko is trying to escape the mount.
Mikonnen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Danko is looking to escape.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Marko Mikonnen just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Mikonnen forces Danko back against the cage and clinches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Danko tries a body shot but Mikonnen blocks it.
Mikonnen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Danko tries to clinch up. Mikonnen slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Mikonnen drives through with a takedown into guard. Mikonnen chips away with some ground and pound. Danko is looking for a triangle but Mikonnen pushes his legs off easily.
Danko has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Mikonnen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Mikonnen postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mikonnen controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Danko looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Danko looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Danko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Danko rushes Mikonnen and presses him up against the cage. Danko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mikonnen pulls him back up using the underhooks. Mikonnen decides to pull guard. Danko throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mikonnen works some decent striking defense from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marko Mikonnen dominated that second round. That's time! Mikonnen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Mikonnen throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Mikonnen closes the distance and pushes Danko back into the cage. Mikonnen manages to pull guard.
Danko trying to control but Mikonnen is working from the bottom. Mikonnen pulls Danko in close to prevent any damage. Danko trying to control the position from guard on top but Mikonnen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mikonnen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Marko Mikonnen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mikonnen looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Mikonnen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Danko wants to control from the top but Mikonnen keeps moving. Mikonnen has his foot on Danko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Danko works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Danko landing with the ground and pound. Danko throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mikonnen holds on and takes a little breather. Mikonnen is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Danko has his hands clasped together but Mikonnen extends an breaks Danko's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mikonnen.
