PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gaius Pollux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liquid Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pollux kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Oh, Hello Ghost by Rolo Tomassi. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Liquid Rage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pollux swats away the attempt to clinch by Rage.
Pollux tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rage paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Rage.

Rage decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pollux manages to get to full guard.
Rage wants to pass the guard but Pollux is keeping the position.
Pollux has a closed guard, preventing Rage from standing up.
Pollux wants to sweep here but Rage controlling him for the moment.

Pollux is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pollux preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Rage slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Rage drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rage jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rage working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pollux's head.

Pollux has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rage can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pollux wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rage is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pollux stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pollux wants it to stay on the feet.

Rage shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pollux is trying to defend but Rage finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rage thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pollux's head.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pollux wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Pollux looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Rage shoots in and bounces Pollux off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Pollux is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rage defends well.
Rage passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Pollux gets back to half guard.
Rage wants to free his trapped foot but Pollux is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rage connects with a nice short shot to Pollux's temple.

Rage is keen to just control but Pollux is a slippery customer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rage lands a big shot there that rocks Pollux but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Rage takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rage cracks Pollux with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Rage postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pollux looks a forlorn figure.
Pollux tries to reverse the position but Rage maintains control.

Rage is working for a guillotine from mount but Pollux frees his head quite easily.

Still in half guard, Rage seems content to control.

Pollux is not content to let Rage control the position.
Rage lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liquid Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rage wants to stand but Pollux is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rage slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
