PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Fondue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Thaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Victor Fondue!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Thaker!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thaker shoots in but Fondue avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fondue displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thaker.
Thaker dives in and grabs Fondue's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fondue pushes down on Thaker's head and hops out.
Victor Fondue has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Thaker.

Fondue closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fondue lands in his opponent's guard.
Fondue would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Thaker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fondue gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fondue might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fondue is looking to stand up but Thaker won't let him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fondue is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Fondue wanted to stand there but Thaker had control of the position.

Fondue trying to control the position from guard on top but Thaker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fondue in particular looking to stall.
Thaker wants to improve his position but Fondue is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Victor Fondue will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Thaker doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fondue counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Fondue knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thaker on the ground.
Fondue slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Victor Fondue overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Thaker gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Fondue counters with a single leg into guard. Thaker didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fondue slips nicely into half guard.
Fondue trying to control from half guard but Thaker is working away.

Fondue is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thaker is just riding it out for now. Fondue eventually gives up the hold.
Thaker is not content to let Fondue control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fondue is really struggling to control Thaker but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Fondue prevents Thaker from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fondue wants to take a breather but Thaker is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Thaker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Thaker performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Fondue is defending against the submission attempts here by Thaker.
Fondue is not content to let Thaker control the position.

Thaker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fondue sees it coming and defends easily.

Thaker is working for a kimura but Fondue is defending it quite comfortably.
Thaker frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Thaker with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Thaker goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Fondue turns into him and now he's in Thaker's guard.

Thaker throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Fondue escapes and throws Thaker's legs to the side, diving into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Victor Fondue showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fondue has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
