Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Thain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thain has chosen Cypress Hill: Insane In The Brain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. James Martin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Martin is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Martin is adopting a defensive guard.
Thain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Martin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thain.

Martin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thain wants to pass the guard but Martin is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thain is one step ahead there.

Thain throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Martin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Thain thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thain is one step ahead there.
Martin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Thain throwing strikes but missing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thain tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
No joy there for Martin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Martin throws a hook to the side of Thain's head but Thain sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Martin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Thain.
Thain shoots in looking for a takedown. Martin tries to sprawl out of it but Thain keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Martin digs a good body shot into Thain's ribs.

Thain moves out of range as Martin strikes.
Thain defending well as Martin loads up on a big left hand.
Thain closes this distance looking for a takedown but Martin circles away.
James Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Todd Thain.

Martin throws a jab when Thain was well out of range.
Good work by Martin as he checks the leg kick.
Thain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Martin sprawls well. Martin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Thain gets slowly back to his feet.

Martin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thain looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Martin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Thain is defended easily by Martin.
Martin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Thain with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Martin to score with a decent uppercut.
Thain on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looks like Todd Thain has been cut.
Thain throws a chopping leg kick but Martin manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thain scoring well with a low kick there.

Thain looks to throw the jab but Martin is out of range.
Thain walks into a jab.
Thain dives in and grabs Martin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Martin pushes down on Thain's head and hops out.
Martin just misses with a punch to the body.
Martin clobbers Thain with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Thain takes one on the button.
Thain takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Martin looks to throw the jab but Thain is out of range.
Thain ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
James Martin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thain uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Martin.
A jab lands there for Martin.
Thain blocks a head kick by Martin.
Thain tries to score with a low kick but Martin moves his leg out of the way.
Thain moves away from the strike by Martin.

Martin tests Thain's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Martin dips to his left and cracks Thain with an uppercut!
Thain bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Martin looks to throw the jab but Thain is out of range.
Thain takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A chopping leg kick lands by Thain.
Martin throws a lazy right hand but Thain sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Martin slaps away a takedown attempt from Thain, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Martin misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Thain counters with a big head kick but Martin shrugs it off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thain fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
James Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Todd Thain.
Martin drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Martin throws a right hand that Thain ducks under and follows up with a left that Thain also avoids with ease.
Thain throws a leg kick which misses Martin's front leg but catches the back leg as Martin tries to avoid it.
Thain shoots in for a takedown but Martin shows good takedown defense.
Thain changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martin tries to avoid it but Thain manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martin to the ground. Martin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Thain is breathing heavily.

Martin bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
No luck for Thain with that takedown attempt.
Martin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Thain's head.

Martin scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Martin drops Thain with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Thain looks back up at him and smiles so Martin waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Thain is rocked!
Martin pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Thain is still on wobbly legs! Can Martin finish him?
Martin scores with a hook.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thain walks straight into a right hand from Martin - that's dropped him! Martin jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Thain from any more punishment! Thain complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
