The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell just misses with a punch to the body.
Russell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Russell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Russell throwing strikes here but Sanford is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Sanford squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Russell throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russell looking to control but Sanford is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Russell might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sanford kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sanford blocking the ground and pound.
Sanford takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
It looks like Fred Sanford has been cut.
Russell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Fred Sanford's cut is getting worse.
Russell misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Russell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sanford looks a forlorn figure.
Fred Sanford's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Russell cracks Sanford with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sanford is squirming around, avoiding Russell's attempts to control the action.
Russell landing strikes from the mount and Sanford is in trouble!

Russell throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Sanford because Russell loaded up on that one.

Jeez, Fred Sanford's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fred Sanford's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
