PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Schillaci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Schillaci!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Evans!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schillaci avoids it really well and circles away.

Schillaci fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Evans, pushing him back against the cage.
Evans jumps guard but Schillaci stands there with Evans around his waist. Evans gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Schillaci jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Evans walks away with a smile on his face. Schillaci gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Schillaci feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Evans has a closed guard, preventing Schillaci from standing up.
Evans is adopting a defensive guard.
Schillaci wants to pass the guard but Evans is keeping the position.
Schillaci trying to control the position from guard on top but Evans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Evans is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Schillaci stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evans swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Schillaci wants to stand but Evans has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Evans scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Evans winds up and cracks Schillaci with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Evans content to control rather than advance.

Schillaci keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Schillaci trying to hold on to Evans's head to control him but Evans postures up.
Evans thows a huge punch but Schillaci dodges it nicely.
Schillaci wants to control but Evans is keeping busy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evans moves nicely into side control.

Schillaci takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Evans trying to control the position but Schillaci is working away.
Evans working the body and head with strikes.
Schillaci seems a little lost for a moment, as Evans dominates the positioning.
Evans scoring with punches and elbows.
Schillaci is letting Evans control him for a moment.
Evans works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Evans looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Evans looks gassed!

Schillaci struggling a bit here.
Evans wants to control but Schillaci is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Schillaci's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Evans is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Evans remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schillaci keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Schillaci doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Evans counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Schillaci!
Evans connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Schillaci wants to control but Evans is having none of it.
Schillaci is trying to reverse the position but instead Evans has taken his back - oops!
Schillaci knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Evans on the ground.
Evans gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

Evans just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Evans is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Schillaci tries to break free.

Evans has his opponent's back but Schillaci is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Evans.
David Schillaci is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Evans scores a takedown into full mount!

Evans lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Evans with shots to the head and body - Schillaci looks very uncomfortable down there.
Evans trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Evans lands a heavy elbow.
Schillaci wants to control but Evans is having none of it.
Evans pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Evans breaks from Schillaci's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Schillaci tries to hold on but Evans pushes him away.

Evans working for a guillotine from mount but Schillaci is in no mood to give up.
Evans takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Schillaci tries to improve his position but instead Evans has taken his back!
Evans keeps control of the position as Schillaci tries to break free.
Evans has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jake Evans has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Evans is riding his opponent, not letting Schillaci buck him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Schillaci waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Evans.
Schillaci looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Evans lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schillaci circles away quickly and effectively.
Schillaci cracks Evans with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Schillaci throws a sloppy head kick and Evans moves out of range easily.
Evans lands an overhand right.

Evans shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Evans showed some decent athleticism there.
Evans controlling the action here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Evans lands a nice short elbow.
Evans trying to control from half guard but Schillaci is working away.
Schillaci looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Evans is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Schillaci is trying to control but can't.
Schillaci wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Evans misses with a takedown attempt

and Schillaci counters with a nice double leg into side control. Evans won't be happy with that.
Schillaci postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Evans is trying to control Schillaci's posture but Schillaci avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Evans is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Evans manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Evans controlling the position well.
Evans wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Schillaci tries to pass to full mount but Evans defends it.
Evans is looking to improve his position.
Evans wants to control but Schillaci is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Evans manages to get to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jake Evans.
I've got Evans winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
