PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Czeslaw Kowalsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jake Tyler was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Czeslaw Kowalsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Tyler!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tyler bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Tyler looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Kowalsky is looking to regain half guard here but Tyler keeps moving and retains side control.
Kowalsky sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Tyler is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kowalsky defends it well.
Kowalsky controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Kowalsky wants to control but Tyler is keeping busy.
Kowalsky tries to get to full guard but Tyler has control of the leg.

Kowalsky tries to roll over but Tyler keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kowalsky looks to score with a jab to the body but Tyler is just out of range.
Kowalsky lands a right hook to the body.
Kowalsky throws a sloppy head kick and Tyler moves out of range easily.
Kowalsky doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Tyler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Tyler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Tyler has gone for a leg lock! Kowalsky slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tyler's guard.
Tyler keeping moving, preventing Kowalsky from controlling successfully.
Tyler wants to sweep here but Kowalsky controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kowalsky wants to control from the top but Tyler keeps moving.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kowalsky would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kowalsky stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tyler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kowalsky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kowalsky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kowalsky is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kowalsky wants to control from the top but Tyler keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tyler blocks a head kick by Kowalsky.

Tyler fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kowalsky sprawls well initially but Tyler persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kowalsky works his way to full guard. Good work.

Tyler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tyler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Tyler is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kowalsky is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kowalsky has escaped and now he's on top!

Tyler looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Tyler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kowalsky doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kowalsky manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tyler has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kowalsky can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake Tyler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kowalsky fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kowalsky is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Tyler counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kowalsky!
Kowalsky can't escape the position.
Tyler moves to take his opponent's back.

Tyler is persistently looking for the submission but Kowalsky is defending it well.

Tyler is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kowalsky has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Kowalsky is trying to break free.

Kowalsky wants to control his opponent's hands but Tyler gets his hands free.

Kowalsky is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Tyler looking for the choke but no joy.
Kowalsky knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tyler on the ground.

Tyler is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kowalsky defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Tyler is persistently looking for the submission but Kowalsky is defending it well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Tyler doesn't have the hooks in and Kowalsky manages to turn into his guard.

Kowalsky postures up and lands a big shot to Tyler's brow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tyler has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kowalsky is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Tyler.
Tyler is trying to improve his position.

Jake Tyler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kowalsky tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Tyler wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kowalsky lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Tyler.

Kowalsky manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Tyler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kowalsky can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tyler is looking to escape.
Tyler is desperately trying to improve his position but Kowalsky has a good base and remains in mount.
Kowalsky trying to control but Tyler is having none of it.
Tyler is in all sorts of trouble here.
Tyler wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kowalsky has the hooks in. Tyler is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Jake Tyler has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tyler turns into Kowalsky and is now in his guard.
Kowalsky wants to stand up but Tyler is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Tyler closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kowalsky did well to prevent Tyler getting side control.

Tyler wants to work for an arm triangle but Kowalsky is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Tyler is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kowalsky is just riding it out for now. Tyler eventually gives up the hold.

Tyler looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tyler is trying to work for a kimura but Kowalsky is defending well.
Tyler is pressing down on Kowalsky's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kowalsky is holding on for now.

Tyler is looking for a kimura but Kowalsky is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tyler to get the leverage.

Tyler is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tyler is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kowalsky sees it coming and defends easily.

Jake Tyler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tyler winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
