PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ayumu Ochi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leon Prenne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leon Prenne told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ayumu Ochi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leon Prenne!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prenne stuffs the takedown attempt from Ochi. Ochi gets slowly back to his feet.

Ochi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Ochi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Prenne sees it coming and defends easily.
Ochi blocks the strikes from Prenne.
Prenne punching from the bottom.
Ochi is looking to advance position but Prenne won't allow it.
Ochi prevents Prenne from improving his position.

Prenne makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Ochi gets the takedown into side control.
Prenne is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ochi tries to advance to mount but Prenne denies him.
Prenne tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ochi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Prenne looks to move to half guard but instead Ochi has passed into mount! Damn!
Ochi trying to control but Prenne is having none of it.
Ochi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Prenne is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Ochi wants to finish this one by submission but Prenne is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ochi.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Prenne wants to hold on but Ochi pushes him away.
Prenne is looking to improve his position but Ochi isn't that keen on the idea.

Ochi has control of Prenne's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Prenne regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Ochi is breathing heavily.
Prenne is squirming around, avoiding Ochi's attempts to control the action.

Ochi is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Prenne is surviving well by controlling Ochi's body position as best he can.
Prenne is trying to escape the mount.

Ochi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Prenne is looking to escape.
Ochi prevents Prenne from getting the reversal.

Ochi goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Prenne turns into him and now he's in Ochi's guard.
Ochi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Prenne is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Prenne stands and steps away. Ochi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Ochi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Ochi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Prenne wants to control from the top but Ochi keeps moving.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ayumu Ochi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Prenne instigates a clinch.

Ochi is pushing down on Prenne's leg trying to pass to half guard. Prenne is fighting to maintain full guard but Ochi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ochi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Prenne does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ochi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ochi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ochi fails with the takedown
and Prenne makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Ochi really felt that one!

Prenne shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ochi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Prenne scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Prenne advances to half guard.

Prenne looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ochi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ochi wants to improve his position but Prenne is controlling well.

Ochi wants to sweep here but Prenne controlling him for the moment.

Ochi kicks Prenne off and gets to his feet.

Leon Prenne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Prenne throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ochi gets back to half guard.

Prenne seems to be working for a kimura but Ochi defends the submission attempt.

Ochi has one foot on Prenne's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Prenne won't allow Ochi to pass to mount.
Prenne is looking for a sweep. Ochi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ochi is trying to control the action in half guard but Prenne is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ochi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Prenne tries to lock up and control but Ochi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ayumu Ochi.
I think Ochi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
