Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Batista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batista comes to the cage accompanied by Rusted From The Rain by Billy Talent. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alan Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sullivan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Sullivan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Batista is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sullivan, into his guard.
Sullivan has a closed guard, preventing Batista from standing up.

Batista is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Sullivan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Batista would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Sullivan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Batista can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Batista has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sullivan is proving hard to escape from.

Batista avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Sullivan working for a triangle but Batista defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sullivan is looking for a triangle but Batista pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sullivan has his foot on Batista's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Batista works his way back into a safe position though.
Sullivan keeping moving, preventing Batista from controlling successfully.

Sullivan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Sullivan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Batista pulls his head out easily.
Sullivan is pressing down on Batista's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Batista trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sullivan's guard.

Sullivan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sullivan is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sullivan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Batista can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sullivan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Batista doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Batista manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Batista wants to control from the top but Sullivan keeps moving.
Batista wanted to stand there but Sullivan had control of the position.
Batista postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Batista trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Batista trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sullivan's guard.
Batista has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sullivan has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Batista should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Sullivan has tightened it up now! Batista should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
