PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Maccharty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Cambara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maccharty's entrance music is Kenya West: Stronger. A fine choice. Cambara has chosen Peleia as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Maccharty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rodrigo Cambara!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cambara darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Maccharty wants to get back to full guard.
Cambara wants to pass the guard but Maccharty is defending well.
Cambara controlling the pace.
Maccharty looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maccharty is looking for a sweep. Cambara is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Maccharty is working hard here to advance position.
Maccharty is looking to control Cambara's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Maccharty avoid being mounted?
Cambara slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Maccharty shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cambara is trying to defend but Maccharty finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Maccharty stalling away here and it's allowed Cambara to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Maccharty postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cambara is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maccharty, into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maccharty looking to control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Maccharty keeping moving, preventing Cambara from controlling successfully.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maccharty looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cambara is one step ahead there.
Maccharty looking to control but Cambara passes into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Maccharty wants to control but Cambara is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cambara looks to land a combination but Maccharty avoids it well.
Cambara doesn't manage to clinch there - Maccharty circles away.
Cambara is looking to clinch.
Cambara fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maccharty is defended easily by Cambara.

Cambara darts in and clinches Maccharty up against the cage.
Cambara fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cambara lands with a right to the head.

Cambara has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maccharty uses from the top position.

Maccharty drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cambara dives on top into guard.

Maccharty seems a little lost for a moment, as Cambara dominates the positioning.

Cambara's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Maccharty is not content to let Cambara control the position.
Maccharty manages to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Maccharty won't allow Cambara to pass to mount.
Cambara performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Cambara is thwarting Maccharty's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Cambara showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Maccharty darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Maccharty is taking a breather. Cambara says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cambara is defending against the submission attempts here by Maccharty.
Cambara really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maccharty. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maccharty tries to pass to full mount but Cambara defends it.

Maccharty seems to be working for a kimura but Cambara defends the submission attempt.

Cambara keeping hold of Maccharty's head, controlling as best he can.

Maccharty is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cambara has managed to free his arm - good work.

Maccharty is working for a kimura here but Cambara manages to reverse the position and he's now in Maccharty's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cambara would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ryan Maccharty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cambara is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Maccharty pulls Cambara in close to prevent any damage.
Cambara not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Rodrigo Cambara is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maccharty is trying to keep Cambara in close.
Cambara wants to stand and escape but instead Maccharty has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Maccharty showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cambara has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
