PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Ben Sanderson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ben Sanderson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Sanderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanderson thows a body shot but no joy.
Nice shot by Sanderson.

Edwards shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Edwards showed some decent athleticism there.
Edwards is tying to control. Sanderson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Edwards moves into full mount! Sanderson won't be happy about that!

Edwards with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Sanderson wants to hold on but Edwards pushes him away.
Sanderson is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Edwards jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sanderson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sanderson and Edwards has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Sanderson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Edwards is controlling him well.

Sanderson is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Edwards tries to advance to mount but Sanderson denies him.
Sanderson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Edwards asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Sanderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sanderson tries to buck Edwards off but Edwards is having none of it.
Edwards is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Edwards cracks Sanderson with a big elbow.
Edwards tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Edwards goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sanderson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Edwards but great work by Sanderson.
Edwards is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanderson stands up and beckons Edwards to his feet.
Sanderson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ben Sanderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanderson scores with a jab to the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Sanderson scores with a four punch combination!

Sanderson gets a clinch.
Edwards wants a takedown but no success here.
Edwards looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Edwards is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Sanderson manages to break the clinch.
Sanderson lands with a nice body punch.

Sanderson drives through and clinches with Edwards against the cage.
Edwards has Sanderson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sanderson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Ben Sanderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Edwards.
Edwards tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sanderson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sanderson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Edwards closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanderson circles away.

Sanderson scores with a takedown into Edwards's guard.

Edwards has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Edwards escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanderson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanderson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Sanderson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Edwards is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sanderson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Edwards escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanderson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ben Sanderson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Sanderson clinches up against the cage.
Edwards tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Edwards changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sanderson fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Sanderson shoots in and bounces Edwards off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sanderson is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Edwards has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Sanderson is looking to defend but Edwards has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Sanderson! Edwards pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Sanderson taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Matt Edwards!
