Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Popovich sprawls well. Popovich wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Popovich has his takedown stuffed
and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Popovich's guard now.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Popovich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Popovich is trying to keep Gracie in close.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown. Popovich fights it but they end up in guard.

Gracie wants to control from the top but Popovich keeps moving.
Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Popovich looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Popovich looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Popovich!
Popovich wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.
Popovich is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gracie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Popovich decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Gracie fails to land the takedown.
Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Popovich is breathing heavily.
Popovich is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gracie dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ren Gracie dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Popovich is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Gracie locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Popovich is forced to tap!
