The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beaver fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sousa misses with a takedown attempt - Beaver sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sousa is looking to regain half guard here but Beaver keeps moving and retains side control.

Beaver tries to clinch up but Sousa circles away and keeps his distance.

and Sousa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sousa stands and throws Beaver's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sousa goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Beaver rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sousa's guard! Nice work there by Beaver!

Beaver thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

and Sousa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Beaver won't be happy with that.

Sousa has hold of Beaver's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Beaver tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Sousa cranks the arm and Beaver screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Beaver, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
