PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freeman is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Slam. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronnie Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Freeman!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Freeman.
Freeman lands with a nice body punch.

Freeman shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ross manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Freeman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Freeman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ross is keeping the position for now.
Ross has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Freeman feints and as Ross raises his hands in defense, Freeman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Freeman stands and steps away. Ross gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Ross closes the distance and clinches up with Freeman, looking for a takedown. Ross pushes Freeman against the cage but Freeman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Freeman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Freeman shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ross counters with a takedown into side control.
Freeman tries to bench press Ross off him but Ross keeps the position.

Ross looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ross is breathing heavily.
Freeman is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ross has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Ross could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ross in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Freeman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ross off and has taken his back!
Ross avoids the strikes from Freeman.
Freeman keeps control of the position as Ross tries to break free.
Ross covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Freeman not allowing Ross to control his hands.
Freeman lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Ross hold on?!

Ross wants to escape the position.
Freeman gets his hands free as Ross looks to control.
Ross is trying to break free.

Freeman tightening his grip on Ross, looking for the choke.
Freeman missing with strikes.
Freeman doesn't have the hooks in and Ross manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Freeman looking for a sweep. Not yet Freeman, not yet.
Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Freeman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Freeman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ross gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ross is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Freeman striking off his back but it's not causing Ross any problems.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ross misses with a takedown attempt - Freeman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Freeman throws a head kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance Freeman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Freeman gets a takedown into half guard.

Ross actively working from the bottom here.

Freeman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ross is just riding it out for now. Freeman eventually gives up the hold.

Freeman throws a lazy head kick

and Ross counters with a nice double leg into side control. Freeman won't be happy with that.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ross trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.

Ross tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ross has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Freeman regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ross's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Freeman gets back to full guard.
Ross pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Freeman is keeping the position for now.
Ronnie Ross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Freeman keeping moving, preventing Ross from controlling successfully.
Ross won't allow Freeman to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Freeman is looking for a triangle but Ross pushes his legs off easily.

Freeman throws a right hand that Ross ducks under and follows up with a left that Ross also avoids with ease.

Ross is trying to work for a kimura but Freeman is defending well.
Freeman wants to improve his position but Ross is controlling well.
Ross is controlling the pace.
Freeman is refusing to be controlled, as Ross sits in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Ross is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ross wants to work for an arm triangle but Freeman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ross is keen to just control but Freeman is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronnie Ross dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Freeman scores with a three punch combo!

Freeman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Freeman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ross swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Freeman tries to stand but Ross is controlling from the bottom.
Freeman won't allow Ross to sweep him here.

Ross looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Freeman is defending well. Ross quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Freeman has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Ross celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ronnie Ross!
