PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johny Brawo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hudson Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brawo comes into the arena with Toony - Los (Feat. Pih & Fabuła) blaring out of the sound system. Hughes has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes throws a head kick that misses.
Hughes looks gassed!

A thudding body kick lands there by Brawo!
Brawo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hughes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Brawo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hughes tries to avoid it but Brawo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hughes to the ground. Hughes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Brawo explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hughes closes the distance and pushes Brawo back into the cage.
Brawo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hughes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hughes creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Brawo's defenses.

Hughes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Nice takedown defense from Hughes. No joy for Brawo on that attempt.
Brawo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Brawo throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease.

Brawo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hughes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hughes is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Brawo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Brawo is looking to take a break and control but Hughes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brawo prevents Hughes from improving his position.

Brawo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hughes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brawo.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brawo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hughes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Brawo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Brawo's back!

and Hughes counters with a single leg into guard. Brawo didn't expect that.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Brawo tries to clinch up but Hughes circles away and keeps his distance.

Brawo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hughes goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Brawo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hughes's guard! Nice work there by Brawo!

Hudson Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brawo is bucking up trying to escape but Hughes cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Brawo wants to hold on but Hughes pushes him away.
Brawo is trying desperately to improve position.
Brawo is working hard here to advance position.

Brawo has left one of his arms exposed and Hughes doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Brawo screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
