Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shane Carwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jermaine Johnson! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carwin keeps the fight on the outside. Johnson lands with a shot to the body. Carwin tries to clinch but Johnson moves away and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Carwin wants to get back to his feet. Johnson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Carwin to stand up. Johnson clinches up with Carwin and pushes him back against the cage. Carwin throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Johnson blocks it with crossed arms. Carwin prevents the takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Johnson is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Johnson lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut. Carwin using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Johnson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Carwin is breathing heavily. Johnson with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Johnson has Carwin pushed against the cage. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Johnson jumps guard but Carwin stands there with Johnson around his waist. Johnson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Johnson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson working some strikes from top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard. Johnson wants to stand but Carwin is controlling his posture from full guard. Carwin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnson stands up from guard. Let's bang! Johnson gets a takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carwin defends it well. Johnson controlling the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Johnson thows a huge punch but Carwin dodges it nicely.
Carwin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Johnson. Johnson trying to control but Carwin is working from the bottom. Carwin keeping full guard, as Johnson tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jermaine Johnson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Shane Carwin's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. A leg kick checked by Carwin. Johnson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Shane Carwin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Johnson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carwin did well to prevent Johnson getting side control. Johnson stalling. Carwin won't allow Johnson to pass to mount. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Carwin reverses the position - he's now on top in Johnson's guard. Carwin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground. Johnson controls Carwin momentarily but Carwin frees himself. Johnson is pulling down on Carwin's head. It's preventing any offense from Carwin, at least for the moment. Johnson is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Carwin frees his head nicely. Oh but Johnson has switched to an armbar! Carwin is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
