Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sean Mess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Smiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tony Smiff has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Mess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Smiff! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mess shoots in for a double leg but Smiff sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Mess shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Smiff is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mess is controlling him. Mess throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Smiff is looking to stand up but Mess isn't so interested in that idea. Mess tries to free his leg and advance position but Smiff is retaining full guard. Smiff is wriggling around but Mess manages to pass to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mess in particular looking to stall. Smiff pushes Mess off looking to stand but Mess dives back in and keeps control.
Mess is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smiff instigates a clinch.

Mess pulls guard effortlessly. Mess wants to sweep here but Smiff controlling him for the moment. Mess is breathing heavily. Mess has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smiff can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mess has a closed guard, preventing Smiff from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mess had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smiff is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mess Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smiff's back instead. Smiff holding both Mess 's hands and preventing any damage. Mess throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Smiff trying to get back to his feet but Mess is in full control for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mess trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Smiff doesn't escape. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smiff trying to get back to his feet but Mess is in full control for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Mess's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Mess looking to break Smiff's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smiff remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mess will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Mess is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mess gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mess gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mess apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Mess shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Mess looking to finish with strikes here!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Smiff is trying to escape the mount but Mess keeps good control and instead manages to take Smiff's back.

Mess feints and as Smiff raises his hands in defense, Mess changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Mess controls from within his opponent's guard. Mess prevents Smiff from getting back to his feet. Mess pushes down on Smiff's leg and manages to get into half guard. Smiff tries to kick Mess off but Mess keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Mess throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Smiff is trying to stand back up but Mess is controlling him
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mess is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smiff doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mess. Mess seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smiff does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Smiff wants to get back to his feet.
Mess misses with a head shot. Smiff uses the momentum to regain guard. Smiff really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mess. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Smiff tries to clinch but Mess moves out of range. Mess fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smiff sprawls well initially but Mess persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mess looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Smiff tries to kick Mess off but Mess keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Mess is looking for a kimura but Smiff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mess to get the leverage. Mess has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smiff is trying to stand.
Mess wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smiff keeps working. Smiff keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mess sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Smiff defending well though. Mess moves nicely into side control. Smiff is not content to let Mess control the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mess drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smiff is not content to let Mess control the position. Mess throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Mess trying to control the position but Smiff is working away. Sean Mess overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mess is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smiff has escaped the position, nice work there. Smiff dodges the ground and pound from Mess. Sloppy strikes there by Mess. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mess shoots in for a takedown but Smiff shows good takedown defense. Smiff does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Smiff throws a series of punches but Mess moves out of range. Mess shoots in and drives through. Smiff sprawls well. Mess fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Mess. That's going to take a lot out of him. Smiff instigates a clinch. Mess takes a knee right on the jaw!
Smiff throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mess blocks it with crossed arms. Smiff with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Smiff lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Smiff takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mess looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Smiff keeping moving, preventing Mess from controlling successfully. Mess advances to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smiff wants to get back to his feet. Smiff is not content to let Mess control the position. Mess sitting and controlling from the half guard. Smiff avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mess. Mess is looking for a kimura here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mess shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smiff as he jumps to the side. A thudding body kick lands there by Smiff!
Smiff lands a nice looking body kick. Mess shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smiff pinned against the cage. Smiff gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Smiff, right into the meat.
Mess shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smiff as he avoids it easily. Tony Smiff is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mess looks for a takedown but Smiff sprawls well. Mess shoots for a double leg takedown but Smiff sprawls well. He's pushed Mess's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mess takes a kick to the side of the head. Smiff throws a right hand that Mess ducks under and follows up with a left that Mess also avoids with ease.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smiff clinches. Mess changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smiff fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mess takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Mess closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Smiff keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mess trying to control the pace. Mess looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smiff's head. Mess is looking to take a break and control but Smiff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smiff is trying to stand.
Tony Smiff has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mess trying to control from half guard but Smiff is working away. Mess is looking for a kimura here.
