Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Batista! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodrigo Herrera! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herrera throws a nice looking combination but Batista bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Danga de danga de dang - Batista scores with a four punch combination!
It looks like Rodrigo Herrera has been cut. Herrera tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Batista was well out of range. Poor timing from Herrera. Herrera takes one to the side of the head.
Batista scores with a nice head shot. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The fight moves into the clinch position. Batista decides to pull guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Herrera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Batista swivels though and keeps the full guard. Batista striking from the bottom.

Batista has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Herrera is looking to get to half guard. Batista tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Batista lands a nice shot to the head. Batista content just to control the position here. Herrera's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Herrera looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Batista sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Batista's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

and Herrera counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Batista closes the distance and clinches up with Herrera, looking for a takedown. Batista pushes Herrera against the cage but Herrera circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Batista. That's going to take a lot out of him. Herrera throws a lazy right hand but Batista sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Herrera keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Batista swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Herrera knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Batista lands with a punch from half guard. Batista tries to pass to full mount but Herrera defends it. Batista seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herrera is looking to control Batista's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Herrera avoid being mounted? Still in half guard, Batista seems content to control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Herrera can do anything to dispel that myth. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Herrera takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Rodrigo Herrera has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Batista lands on the inside with an uppercut.
And that's the end of the fight! Jose Batista showed his dominance in that final round. Well Batista has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
