Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Armin Merkel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merkel comes into the arena with Waidmanns Heil blaring out of the sound system. Davis has chosen Disturbed-Indestructible as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merkel ducks under a wild hook from Davis.
Merkel thuds his right hand into Davis's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
No joy there for Davis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The fighters circling - Davis throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Merkel avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Davis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Davis scores with a one two! Merkel had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Davis doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Left hook, right uppercut from Merkel.

It looks like John Davis has been cut.
Merkel lands a jab-cross combination.
Merkel lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Merkel stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Merkel throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Davis moves forwards but Merkel connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Davis takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Merkel scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Davis is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Merkel.

That has opened up John Davis's cut even more.
Merkel fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Davis on the side of the head.
Merkel lands a jab to the head.
Merkel lands a nice hook to Davis's body. Davis takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Merkel moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

The cut above John Davis's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Merkel scores with a shot to the body.
Davis swinging wildly here.
Merkel cracks Davis with a right hand to the side of the head.
Davis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Merkel is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

A left and a right from Merkel both land. Nice combination.
Merkel is working the combinations to good effect here.
Merkel lands a nice shot that snaps Davis's head back.

John Davis's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Davis closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Merkel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Davis stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Davis has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Merkel scores with a hook to the body. Davis takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nice straight punches there by Merkel. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Merkel.
Davis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Davis throws a hook but Merkel avoids it easily.
Merkel is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Merkel stuns Davis with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Merkel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at John Davis's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Armin Merkel!
