Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fidel Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Martinez! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Castro is trying to improve his position. Martinez stands up and we're back to a striking position. Martinez tries to bum rush Castro with a series of wild strikes but Castro uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Castro with a poor takedown and Martinez counters with a nice low kick that buckles Castro's knee momentarily. Martinez throws the kick towards the body but Castro avoids it. The fight stays on the outside here - Martinez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Martinez shoots in and bounces Castro off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Castro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Martinez wants to pass the guard but Castro is keeping the position. Martinez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Castro not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but Castro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Martinez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Castro keeping moving, preventing Martinez from controlling successfully. Castro is looking for a triangle but Martinez pushes his legs off easily.
Castro is trying to control the position but Martinez postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Martinez has managed to clinch.
Martinez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Castro avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Castro fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Martinez works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but Castro is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Martinez looks gassed! Castro has his hands on Martinez's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martinez wants to pass the guard but Castro is keeping the position. Martinez preventing the sweep. Castro looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Castro looking to control.
Castro pushes a forearm under Martinez's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Martinez is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
