PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mathis Iselholm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Veetor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iselholm kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mathis Iselholm! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Veetor Belfort! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belfort throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
No joy there for Iselholm, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Iselholm bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Belfort sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Belfort has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Iselholm is working away from the top position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Belfort makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Belfort. Belfort is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Belfort wants to control the position but Iselholm says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Belfort is trying to get back to full guard. Iselholm tries to pass the half guard into mount. Belfort knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Iselholm tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Belfort. Belfort wants to improve his position but Iselholm is controlling well.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Iselholm looks for a takedown but Belfort sprawls well. Iselholm closes the distance and clinches. Belfort tries to pull guard but Iselholm holds him up against the cage and eventually Belfort drops back down to his feet.
Belfort wants a takedown but no success here.
Iselholm manages to break the clinch.
Iselholm fails to land the takedown. The fight stays on the outside here - Iselholm looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Belfort stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mathis Iselholm. That's going to take a lot out of him. Iselholm shoots in for a double leg but Belfort sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Belfort lands with a straight right. Iselholm didn't see that one coming. Iselholm is breathing heavily. Belfort connects with a good right hand that stumbles Iselholm. Iselholm circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Iselholm scores with a leg kick.
Belfort keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Belfort. No joy for Iselholm on that attempt. Iselholm rushes Belfort and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Belfort is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Belfort scores with a nice hook to the head. Belfort drops down looking for an ankle pick but Iselholm pulls his leg out and moves away.
Belfort misses with a wild combination.
Belfort connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Iselholm tumbling to the canvas! Belfort pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Iselholm was done - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Veetor Belfort!
