PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marek Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Pudzian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pudzian is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Toony - Los (Feat. Pih & Fabuła). Johny Pudzian is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Marek Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Johny Pudzian!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pudzian darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kowalski is staying active underneath Pudzian, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Pudzian escapes and gets back to his feet.

Pudzian drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Pudzian wants to control from the top but Kowalski keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pudzian decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kowalski, up you get!
The fight stays on the outside here - Kowalski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Marek Kowalski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kowalski tries to clinch there but Pudzian circles away.
Kowalski tries to close the distance and clinch but Pudzian swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pudzian shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pudzianis looking to pass into half guard but Kowalski pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Kowalski is in guard.

Pudzian pushes Kowalski off and scrambles back to his feet.

Pudzian breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Pudzian throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kowalski was covering up waiting for the punch and Pudzian finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Pudzian working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Pudzian advances to half guard.
Pudzian is taking a breather. Kowalski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Pudzian's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Pudzian not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Kowalski controlling the position for now.
Pudzian performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Kowalski might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Pudzian not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like Pudzian is going to stand back up.
Pudzian is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pudzian is looking to take a break and control but Kowalski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pudzian is working for a kimura but Kowalski is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Pudzian counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kowalski!

Pudzian with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Pudzian trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pudzian stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Pudzian fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kowalski sprawls well initially but Pudzian persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Pudzian throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Pudzian is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Kowalski manages to get to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pudzian gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kowalski tries to clinch up
and Pudzian counters with a left and a right that stings Kowalski.

Pudzian closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Pudzian in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Pudzian working the ground and pound but Kowalski is defending the strikes.
Pudzian tries to score with some ground and pound. Kowalski controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Pudzian decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kowalski to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pudzian fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Pudzian manages to break the clinch.

Pudzian gets a takedown into half guard.
Pudzian tries to pass to full mount but Kowalski defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johny Pudzian showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Pudzian counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kowalski doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Pudzian counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kowalski's guard now.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pudzian stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kowalski swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pudzian must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pudzian forces his way into half guard.
Pudzian throwing shots but Kowalski is blocking nicely.

Pudzian is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kowalski defends it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marek Kowalski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pudzian is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pudzian trying to mount his opponent but Kowalski defends it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johny Pudzian comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pudzian has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
