Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cleveland Robson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joey Johnson! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robson checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Robson throws a body punch but Johnson moves out of range. Robson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A slow jab from Robson misses its intended target. Robson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Johnson.
Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Johnson motions for Robson to come forward. Johnson throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Johnson clinches up against the cage. Johnson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Johnson tries to score a body lock takedown but Robson shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Robson lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Joey Johnson has been cut. Johnson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Johnson wants a takedown but no success here.
Cleveland Robson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joey Johnson. Robson using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Johnson looks gassed! Johnson being controlled against the cage. Robson seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Robson lands a hook that snaps the head of Johnson backwards. Nice elbow from Robson. The referee calls for Robson to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Robson works on Johnson's body with a couple of short punches. Robson is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Robson scores a nice knee to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Robson gets a trip takedown into half guard. Robson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Robson is figuring out what he wants to do next. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Robson thows a huge punch but Johnson dodges it nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Robson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Robson connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.
That has opened up Joey Johnson's cut even more. Robson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Robson is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Robson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Robson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Johnson is refusing to be controlled, as Robson sits in half guard. Robson controlling the pace. Robson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Robson wants to clinch and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Robson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Cleveland Robson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Robson moves into the clinch. Robson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Johnson up against the cage. Robson creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Johnson's defenses.
The cut above Joey Johnson's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A right hook to the body lands for Robson.
Robson scores with a hook to the body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Robson with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Joey Johnson's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Joey Johnson's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
