PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Niklas Fleischer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Shankar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fleischer comes to the cage accompanied by The Man Comes Around. The crowd seem to be enjoying Shankar's choice of entrance music: "Them Belly Full" by Bob Marley. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Niklas Fleischer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Andre Shankar!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shankar dodges the punch combination from Fleischer.

Shankar looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shankar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fleischer misses with a series of wild punches.
Fleischer misses the shot to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shankar.
A combination from Fleischer does no damage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shankar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Shankar dives in and grabs Fleischer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fleischer pushes down on Shankar's head and hops out.

Shankar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fleischer as he jumps to the side.
Niklas Fleischer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre Shankar.
Shankar avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shankar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fleischer pinned against the cage. Fleischer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fleischer lands a nice leg kick that just misses Shankar's sensitive parts.

Fleischer sizes up Shankar with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Shankar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fleischer's waist but Fleischer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shankar off to one side.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fleischer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fleischer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shankar was well out of range. Poor timing from Fleischer.
Fleischer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shankar tries to clinch up.
Shankar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fleischer pinned against the cage. Fleischer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A big right from Fleischer misses.
Fleischer leaves Shankar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Shankar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Shankar drops back, looking for a kneebar! Fleischer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Fleischer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Fleischer!
Fleischer tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A lull in the action here as Fleischer stalls from top position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Shankar throws Fleischer to one side and escapes!

Shankar is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fleischer.
Shankar slips a jab and a cross from Fleischer.
Fleischer looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Shankar shoots in for a takedown but Fleischer shows good takedown defense.
Niklas Fleischer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre Shankar.

Shankar misses with a takedown attempt - Fleischer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Shankar lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's time! Fleischer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Shankar seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Shankar lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.


It looks like Niklas Fleischer has been cut.
Shankar blocks the strikes from Fleischer.
Shankar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Shankar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Fleischer here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Fleischer works his way to full guard. Good work.

Shankar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shankar drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fleischer dives on top into guard.
Shankar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Shankar keeping moving, preventing Fleischer from controlling successfully.
Niklas Fleischer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Fleischer stands and steps away. Shankar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Andre Shankar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fleischer throws a lazy right hand but Shankar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fight stays on the outside here - Shankar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Andre Shankar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fleischer has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
