Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Matias! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Belfort! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matias fails to land with a series of punches.

Matias looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Belfort is fending him off so far but Matias persists. Nope, Belfort circles away and we're back to standing. Matias misses with a hook. Belfort ducked under it nicely. Belfort changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Matias looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Belfort working the ground and pound. Belfort trying to control the action but Matias is working from the bottom. Belfort tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Matias is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Belfort has just dragged him back down to the mat. Belfort thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Belfort is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matias has escaped the position, nice work there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matias wants to get back to his feet but Belfort drags him back down. Belfort wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Matias, who protects the arm well. Belfort wants to control but Matias is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Belfort might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Matias kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Matias is trying to buck Belfort off.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Matias tries to bum rush Belfort with a series of wild strikes but Belfort uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Matias throws a right and a left that both miss. Belfort will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Belfort shoots in for a takedown but Matias shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. A big left from Belfort misses. Matias slaps away a takedown attempt from Belfort, before circling back to the center of the mat. Lucas Matias has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Belfort. Matias throws a big shot that misses.

Nice defenses there by Belfort. Matias will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Belfort moves away from the strike by Matias. Belfort blocks a leg kick. Matias misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Belfort gets a clinch. Matias is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Belfort pulls him back up using the underhooks. Matias is breathing heavily. That's four minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Belfort accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Belfort advances to half guard. Matias tries to get to full guard but Belfort has control of the leg. Matias is refusing to be controlled, as Belfort sits in half guard. Matias is looking for a sweep. Belfort is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Matias is concentrating on defense, preventing Belfort from advancing position. Belfort is keen to just control but Matias is a slippery customer. Matias won't allow Belfort to pass to mount.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Matias is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Belfort's half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paulo Belfort dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Belfort shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Matias's guard. Belfort controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Belfort working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Matias's head. Matias is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Belfort stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matias swivels though and keeps the full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Belfort controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Belfort working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Matias not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Matias defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Belfort. Belfort scores with a takedown into Matias's guard. Matias wants to stand up but Belfort is controlling him. Belfort is pushing down on Matias's leg trying to pass to half guard. Matias is fighting to maintain full guard but Belfort has managed to sneak the leg through. Belfort seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Matias does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Belfort tries to pass the half guard into mount. Matias knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Belfort wants to control but Matias is keeping him busy. Belfort seems to be working for a kimura but Matias defends the submission attempt.

Belfort is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Belfort's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Matias is trying to escape back to his feet but Belfort uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Belfort trying to control the action but Matias is working from the bottom. Matias struggling a bit here. Belfort tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Matias is trying to escape and get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paulo Belfort showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Matias's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Belfort lands a lovely overhand right. Belfort dives in and grabs Matias's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matias pushes down on Belfort's head and hops out.

No, Matias has escaped the position, nice work there. Belfort with the ground and pound but Matias regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Lucas Matias has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Paulo Belfort is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Matias looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
