Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyoto Andres! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Pawlowski! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pawlowski takes the fight into the clinch. Pawlowski tries to break the clinch but Andres is controlling the position. Pawlowski trying to land knees to the body.
Andres using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Pawlowski has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Andres tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pawlowski smiles and moves away.
Andres takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Pawlowski scoring well with a low kick there.
Andres is breathing heavily. Pawlowski has Andres up against the cage in a clinch.
Andres manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pawlowski gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Andres shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pawlowski as he jumps to the side. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Danga de danga de dang - Pawlowski scores with a four punch combination!
It looks like Lyoto Andres has been cut. Andres gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pawlowski to score an easy takedown into full guard. Pawlowski wants to control from the top but Andres keeps moving. Pawlowski in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Andres utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Pawlowski trying to control the position from guard on top but Andres is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pawlowski distracts Andres with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Pawlowski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Andres will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Pawlowski postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Pawlowski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Pawlowski showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pawlowski working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pawlowski looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Pawlowski stands up over Andres, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Pawlowski with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Pawlowski is looking to work some ground and pound but Andres has wrist control. Andres is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Pawlowski keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Andres's head. Pawlowski is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Pawlowski scoring with punches to the head and body. Pawlowski wants to control from the top but Andres keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pawlowski gets to his feet - Andres follows without any prompting. Pawlowski tries to close the distance and clinch up but Andres swats him away and circles back towards the center. Pawlowski shoots for a double leg takedown but Andres sprawls well. He's pushed Pawlowski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Pawlowski lands a nice looking body shot.
Pawlowski scores with a hook. Pawlowski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Andres looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Andres on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Andres tries to get out of the position. Pawlowski controls the position. Pawlowski is trying to get an arm triangle but Andres is defending well. Pawlowski has an Americana. Andres didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Pawlowski is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Pawlowski hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
