The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kane leaves Modovie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kane tries to clinch there but Modovie circles away.
Kane moves in looking to clinch but Modovie pushes him off.
Kane closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Modovie has picked Kane up - he's going for a ride! Modovie dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kane tries to get to full guard but Modovie has control of the leg.

David Kane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Modovie. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Kane is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Modovie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Modovie controls Kane momentarily but Kane frees himself.
Modovie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Modovie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kane doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kane manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kane knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Modovie on the ground.
