PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jimmy Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eddy James!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by James.
Carter looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
James cracks Carter with a big right hand but Carter just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
An elbow from James crashes against the mat.
Carter tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Carter is not content to let James control the position.
Carter being controlled for a moment.
James working the ground and pound.

James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Carter is not content to let James control the position.
James cracks Carter with a big elbow.
Carter on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
James is looking to take a break and control but Carter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
James controlling from side mount.

James looks up at the clock and then as Carter takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, James smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Carter is looking to regain half guard here but James keeps moving and retains side control.
Carter is trying to control James's posture but James avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

James has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carter tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carter to the ground. Carter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
James throws a right hand that Carter ducks under and follows up with a left that Carter also avoids with ease.
No luck with that takedown attempt from James.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
Jimmy Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy James.
James fails with a takedown attempt.

Carter forces James back against the cage and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carter goes for a takedown in the clinch but James prevents it.
James fails to pull guard.

James breaks the clinch.
James doesn't manage to clinch there - Carter circles away.

James moves into the clinch.

Carter pulls guard successfully.
Carter trying to keep a closed guard but James is proving a slippery customer.
James wanted to stand there but Carter had control of the position.
James wants to pass the guard but Carter is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy James dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



James shoots in and bounces Carter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Carter has momentary wrist control but James slips an elbow through the middle.
Carter keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
James works over Carter with some ground and pound from guard.
Carter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James shoots for a takedown but Carter saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Carter wants to clinch.

Carter looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James is adopting a defensive guard.
James wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.
Carter landing some decent shots from guard.

Carter controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Carter trying to control but James is working from the bottom.

James working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Carter has passed into half guard!
Carter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Carter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Carter wants to control but James is keeping him busy.
Carter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Carter is keen to just control but James is a slippery customer.
James slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

James pushes Carter off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carter on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Carter tries to clinch

and James counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by James.
Carter takes a knee to the side of the body.
Carter missing with knees to the body.
James tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Carter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carter takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
James misses with a takedown attempt
enabling Carter to counter with a crisp jab.
Jimmy Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy James.
Carter fails with the takedown
and James counters with a slapping leg kick.
Carter throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James misses with a takedown

and Carter counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for James!
James is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
James is looking to improve his position but Carter isn't that keen on the idea.
Carter trying to control but James is having none of it.

Carter goes for an armbar but he's not got it… James turns into him and now he's in Carter's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.
James might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Carter kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Carter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
James throwing strikes from guard but Carter blocks nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
James wants to get up but he can't break Carter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
James wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.
Carter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst James is controlling him.
Carter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James slaps away a takedown attempt from Carter, before circling back to the center of the mat.

James looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carter!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

James is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Carter is surviving well by controlling James's body position as best he can.
James scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Carter?
James has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Carter's face.
Carter is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carter is working hard here to advance position.
James trying to control but Carter is having none of it.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, James cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter wants to get back to his feet.
Jimmy Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Eddy James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Carter can't escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmy Carter.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
