Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between macuco piredda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hudson Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Hudson Hughes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
piredda shoots for a takedown but Hughes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from piredda.

Hughes clinches up against the cage.
Hughes tries to score a body lock takedown but piredda shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hughes looks gassed!

piredda has picked Hughes up - he's going for a ride! piredda dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Hughes is staying active underneath piredda, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

piredda stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Hughes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but piredda was well out of range. Poor timing from Hughes.
Hughes throws a right and a left that both miss.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hughes prevents piredda from taking his back.
piredda wants to control the pace but Hughes is squirming around nicely.

piredda is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hughes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
piredda is looking to work his way around to Hughes's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Hughes tries to lock up and control but piredda gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

and Hughes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for piredda!

piredda bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

piredda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hughes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, piredda has managed to get both his arms back between Hughes's legs - danger averted.

Horrible takedown by piredda or perhaps it was just good defense by Hughes which made him look bad.

piredda dives in and grabs Hughes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hughes pushes down on piredda's head and hops out.

Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but piredda swats him away and circles back towards the center.

piredda misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

piredda is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hughes is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute piredda jumps into side control!

Hughes is looking to regain half guard here but piredda keeps moving and retains side control.
