PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jackie Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Lester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Day kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Hammerfall - At the End of the Rainbow. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jackie Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vic Lester!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lester scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Lester gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lester looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Day avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lester has his foot on Day's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Day works his way back into a safe position though.

Lester is looking for a triangle but Day pushes his legs off easily.
Day is in close to Lester's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Day has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Day with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Day throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Day missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Day accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lester escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Day gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Day wants to pass the guard but Lester is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Lester is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lester looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lester misses with an uppercut. Day saw that one coming.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lester. Day does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lester scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Lester tries to clinch up.
Day ducks under a wild hook from Lester.
Lester misses with a takedown attempt - Day sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Day has taken the fight to the clinch.

Day escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lester thows a body shot but no joy.
Lester swats away the attempt to clinch by Day.
Vic Lester seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Day forces Lester back against the cage and clinches.
Day wants to get back to striking at distance but Lester won't allow it.
Lester jumps guard but Day stands there with Lester around his waist. Lester gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Day misses with some punches.

Day breaks from the clinch.
Lester throws a right and a left that Day avoids nicely.
Day swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Day closes the distance and clinches up with Lester, looking for a takedown. Day pushes Lester against the cage but Lester circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Day bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Day misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lester swings for the body but Day moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Day.

Day gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Day lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Day taking a breather.

Day escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Day tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Day feints and as Lester raises his hands in defense, Day changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Lester is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lester controls Day momentarily but Day frees himself.
Day throwing strikes from guard but Lester blocks nicely.

Lester is looking for a triangle but Day pushes his legs off easily.
Day postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lester not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Day got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lester has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Day has managed to get both his arms back between Lester's legs - danger averted.
Day lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Day working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lester's head.
Day with a nice head shot there.

Day got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lester has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Day has managed to get both his arms back between Lester's legs - danger averted.
Lester looks gassed!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Day's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Day lands a couple of digs.
Day scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lester is looking to sinch up a triangle. Day throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Lester's body to avoid the submission. Lester has instead reached around Day's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Lester arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Vic Lester!
