PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Kilner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Sterner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sterner comes into a darkened arena with his song building. target=blank>Kung Fu Fighting kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerry Kilner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Sterner!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilner misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sterner.
Sterner throws a nice head kick!

Sterner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kilner is trying to defend but Sterner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sterner trying to control the pace.
Sterner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kilner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kilner wants to improve his position but Sterner is controlling well.
Sterner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Sterner prevents Kilner from standing back up.

Sterner wants to stand but Kilner has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Kilner on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sterner decides to return to a standing position.

Kilner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sterner has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kilner has passed into side control.
Kilner landing strikes.
Sterner is trying to get back to half guard.

Kilner stands up and beckons Sterner to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sterner clinches up with Kilner and pushes him back against the cage.
Sterner content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Kilner has Sterner pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sterner manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kilner is breathing heavily.
Kilner lands with a short shot to the head.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kilner has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Sterner manages to break the clinch.
Kilner has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Sterner decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Dave Sterner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kilner shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sterner defends it nicely.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sterner.
Sterner pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Sterner shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kilner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sterner connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kilner some visible discomfort.

Sterner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Sterner tries to bum rush Kilner with a series of wild strikes but Kilner uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kilner circles away from the clinch attempt.

Kilner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sterner sprawls well initially but Kilner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kilner connects with a nice short shot to Sterner's temple.
Kilner wants to take a breather but Sterner is having none of it.

Kilner not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sterner tries to roll over but Kilner keeps him under control.
Sterner is not content to let Kilner control the position.
Kilner prevents Sterner from improving his position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Sterner rushes Kilner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Sterner dominated that round.

Kilner shoots in and drives through. Sterner sprawls well.
Sterner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kilner swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sterner has closed the distance and engaged Kilner in a clinch.

Sterner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sterner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Kilner gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sterner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kilner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sterner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sterner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kilner can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sterner controls the pace.
Kilner thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sterner wanted to stand there but Kilner had control of the position.
Kilner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sterner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Sterner pushes Kilner up against the cage in a clinch.
Nice elbow from Sterner.
Kilner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sterner walks away with a smile on his face. Kilner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sterner decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kilner wants to control but Sterner is keeping busy.
Kilner is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Sterner is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Kilner is trying to get back to full guard.
Sterner tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Kilner.
Kilner wants to get back to his feet.
Dave Sterner has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kilner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sterner is working away from the top position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kilner on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Sterner. Sterner obviously looking to wear him down.
Sterner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice takedown defense from Sterner. No joy for Kilner on that attempt.

Kilner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Dave Sterner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sterner is trying to reverse the position but instead Kilner has taken his back - oops!

Sterner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Kilner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sterner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sterner gets to his feet - Kilner follows without any prompting.
Sterner goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Sterner drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sterner working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Sterner decides to stand back up.
Kilner tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sterner swivels and escapes.
A right-left combo lands from Sterner.

Kilner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sterner did well to prevent Kilner getting side control.

Sterner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kilner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sterner is working away from the top position though.
Sterner prevents Kilner from improving his position.
Sterner is thwarting Kilner's attempts to control the position.

Sterner takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sterner decides to stand up.
Sterner throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sterner misses with a head kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sterner.
Sterner just content to control the position.
Kilner tries to improve position but can't.
Sterner controls the position.
Jerry Kilner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dave Sterner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kilner throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Dave Sterner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sterner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
