PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Cotto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Cromartie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Antonio Cromartie!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cotto changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cromartie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cotto controls the position.
Cromartie can't do much from the bottom here.
Cromartie tries to buck Cotto off but Cotto is having none of it.
Cromartie wants to control but Cotto postures up.
Cromartie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cotto is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Cromartie will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Cromartie can't do much from the bottom here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Cromartie checks a leg kick.

Cromartie shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cotto is trying to defend but Cromartie finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Cromartie is looking for a kimura but Cotto is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cromartie to get the leverage.
Cotto wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are battling for position here. Cotto manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Cotto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Cromartie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cotto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cromartie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cotto fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cromartie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cromartie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cotto.
Cromartie shoots in but no luck this time.
Cromartie fakes the leg kick and cracks Cotto in the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cromartie.

and Cromartie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cotto!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cromartie wants to stand up but Cotto manages to regain full guard.
Cotto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cromartie's guard.
Cotto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cromartie not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cotto won't allow Cromartie to get back to his feet.

Cotto is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cromartie wants to control but Cotto passes easily into half guard.
Cromartie is not content to let Cotto control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cromartie wants to get back to full guard.

Cromartie throws a half hearted mid kick.
Cotto is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cromartie sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cromartie is trying to drag Cotto to the mat but Cotto just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Miguel Cotto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Cromartie.

Cotto is nestled in close to Cromartie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cotto works his foot free and advances to mount.

Cromartie is in a horrible position here. Cotto smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cotto postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cromartie looks a forlorn figure.
