PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Led Zeppelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack James is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Led Zeppelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack James!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James swats away the attempt to clinch by Zeppelin.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.

James stands up and waves to Zeppelin to follow him.
Zeppelin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Zeppelin. James shrugs it off though.
James looks gassed!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zeppelin tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
Zeppelin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Led Zeppelin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zeppelin throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd cheers as Zeppelin lands an impressive looking overhand right. James doesn't seem phased though.
Zeppelin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but James moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Zeppelin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Zeppelin wants to clinch.
Zeppelin closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Jack James has been cut.
Zeppelin is looking to clinch.
Zeppelin tries to clinch but James moves out of range.

James keeps the fight on the outside.

Zeppelin lands a big head kick that sends James tumbling to the mat! Zeppelin takes a step backwards and waves James back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Zeppelin wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.
James is still on wobbly legs! Can Zeppelin finish him?
James takes a shot right to the bread basket.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zeppelin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James seems to have recovered his senses.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Zeppelin is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
Zeppelin fails with an attempt to clinch.
James throws a body kick that misses.
Zeppelin tries to clinch but James is having none of it.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
James blocks a head kick by Zeppelin.
Zeppelin moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
James takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Zeppelin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The fight stays on the outside here - Zeppelin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Zeppelin tries to clinch but James moves out of range.

James gets a clinch.
James has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Zeppelin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Zeppelin crunches a lovely knee into James's ribcage.
Zeppelin throws an elbow but it misses.
James misses with a knee strike.

James works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Zeppelin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Zeppelin manages to escape and get back to his feet.

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Zeppelin wants to stand back up but James manages to pass into side control.
Zeppelin is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zeppelin keeps working.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Zeppelin tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Zeppelin bucks up and throws James to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
James circles away from the clinch attempt

and James counters with a single leg into guard. Zeppelin didn't expect that.
Zeppelin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst James is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zeppelin looks to clinch

and James counters with a nice double leg into side control. Zeppelin won't be happy with that.
Zeppelin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but James is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Led Zeppelin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack James's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Zeppelin looks to clinch

and James counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by James.

James gets to his feet - Zeppelin follows without any prompting.
James fails to land with a series of punches.
James fails in his attempt to clinch.
Zeppelin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Zeppelin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Zeppelin wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.
Zeppelin doesn't manage to clinch there - James circles away.
Zeppelin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Zeppelin misses with a head kick.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Zeppelin has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Zeppelin there as he acknowledges the shot.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Led Zeppelin is winning the standup battle so far.
James throws a head kick that misses.
Zeppelin throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by James.

James closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Zeppelin to the mat! Zeppelin manages to get full guard.

James decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Zeppelin is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Zeppelin tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zeppelin trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
James takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Zeppelin pushes James off looking to stand but James dives back in and keeps control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zeppelin wants to get back to his feet.

Zeppelin is looking to get back to his feet here but James is keeping cool and he's managed to take Zeppelin's back.
Zeppelin has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
James throwing damaging strikes from the back! Zeppelin could be in trouble here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Zeppelin holding both James 's hands and preventing any damage.
James is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Zeppelin up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James cracks Zeppelin with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Zeppelin from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee is taking a good look at Zeppelin as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from James!
Zeppelin controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and James counters with a left and a right that stings Zeppelin.

and James counters with a single leg into guard. Zeppelin didn't expect that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

James prevents Zeppelin from getting back to his feet.
Zeppelin is looking to stand back up but James counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Zeppelin.
James stops Zeppelin from getting back to his feet.
Zeppelin blocking the ground and pound attempt from James.
Zeppelin tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Zeppelin scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but James manages to mount him!
Zeppelin's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Zeppelin's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
James tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
James lands a big elbow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
James won't let Zeppelin get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
James pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

James has control of Zeppelin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Zeppelin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Zeppelin is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
