PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mamed Khalidov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mamed Khalidov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bryan Fury!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fury shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Khalidov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Fury pushing down on Khalidov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Khalidov is trying to maintain the position but Fury is very close to passing his half guard.
Fury controlling the action here.

Fury decides to stand and escape the position.
Fury goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Khalidov tries to close the distance and clinch but Fury swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fury tries to close the distance and clinch up but Khalidov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fury is looking to clinch but Khalidov is avoiding it.
Fury moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Khalidov avoids a punch combination nicely.

Khalidov tries for a takedown but Fury circles away easily

and Fury holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Khalidov is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Fury breaks the clinch.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Fury. Khalidov shrugs it off though.

Khalidov drives through and clinches with Fury against the cage.

Fury pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Khalidov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fury as he jumps to the side.

Fury darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Khalidov is breathing heavily.
Khalidov has hold of Fury's hands but Fury slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Khalidov wants to control but Fury is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khalidov wants to get back to full guard.

Khalidov is defending against the submission attempts here by Fury.
Fury looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Khalidov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Fury passes the guard and advances to mount!
Fury moves to the back.
Fury misses with a punch to the head.

Fury is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Khalidov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Khalidov for a finish.
Fury trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Khalidov covering up well and avoiding damage.
Fury has Khalidov flattened out and is raining down punches.
Fury just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Khalidov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Fury lands punches and elbows.
Fury struggling to land strikes to the head as Khalidov covers up.

Fury working for a choke but Khalidov reverses nicely into Fury 's guard.
Khalidov trying to control but Fury is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Fury dominated that round.

Khalidov tries to clinch but Fury moves away

and Fury counters by clinching up.

Khalidov wants to stand but Fury is controlling his posture from full guard.

Khalidov is looking to stand up but Fury won't let him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fury keeping moving, preventing Khalidov from controlling successfully.
Khalidov wants to stand but Fury is controlling his posture from full guard.
Fury seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Khalidov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khalidov trying to control the position from guard on top but Fury is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khalidov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fury is looking to stand up but Khalidov isn't so interested in that idea.
Fury not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Fury.
Fury avoids the head kick by Khalidov.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fury has managed to clinch.

Fury ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fury no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Fury is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Khalidov defends well.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khalidov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fury is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Fury manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Fury shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Khalidov sprawls well. Khalidov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fury gets slowly back to his feet.
Khalidov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Khalidov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fury is fending him off so far but Khalidov persists. Nope, Fury circles away and we're back to standing.

Fury has managed to clinch.
Khalidov tries to work over Fury's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Khalidov stalling in the clinch but Fury improves position.
Fury manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fury gets control of Khalidov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Fury will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Fury pulls Khalidov in to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Fury showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fury is defended easily by Khalidov.

It looks like Bryan Fury has been cut.
Fury is looking to clinch but Khalidov is avoiding it.

Fury misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A head kick by Fury misses
and Khalidov counters with a head kick. That will keep Fury thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Fury throws a combination that misses
and Khalidov counters with a head kick. That will keep Fury thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Fury goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Khalidov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A nice combination there by Fury.

Fury stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Khalidov throws a lazy head kick
and Fury counters with a nice leg kick.

and Fury holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fury tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Khalidov fails to pull guard.
Khalidov tries to stall but Fury uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Khalidov fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Fury breaks the clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Khalidov as Fury shoots in.
Fury stuffs the takedown.
Khalidov leaves Fury with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fury closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khalidov circles away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fury throws a sloppy head kick and Khalidov moves out of range easily.

Fury fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Khalidov, pushing him back against the cage.

Fury jumps into guard, dragging Khalidov to the mat.

Khalidov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fury has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Khalidov has managed to get both his arms back between Fury's legs - danger averted.

Fury wriggles free and stands up.
Mamed Khalidov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fury throws a series of punches but Khalidov avoids them all with ease.
Fury gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Khalidov.
Khalidov connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fury's hands.
Khalidov tries for a takedown but Fury sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Fury gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Fury manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Khalidov wants to get up but he can't break Fury's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Fury trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Fury pushes Khalidov off and gets back to his feet.
Fury takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fury rushes Khalidov and presses him up against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Fury.
Bryan Fury is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Khalidov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Fury controlling the action here for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bryan Fury comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fury has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
