PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xavier David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mat Matmat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David comes to the cage accompanied by Bring The Pain. Matmat has chosen pass tha axe as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xavier David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Matmat!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matmat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. David tries to avoid it but Matmat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag David to the ground. David escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
David slaps away a takedown attempt from Matmat, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Matmat shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Matmat lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
David holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Matmat tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Matmat wants to control the pace but David is squirming around nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
David wants to hold on but Matmat pushes him away.
David takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Matmat throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Matmat breaks from David's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Matmat wants to finish this one by submission but David is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Matmat.
Matmat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
David tries to lock up and control but Matmat gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

David is bucking up trying to escape but Matmat cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Matmat is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. David can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

David is in a horrible position here. Matmat smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Matmat breaks from David's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matmat goes for an armbar but he's not got it… David turns into him and now he's in Matmat's guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


David misses with an uppercut.
Matmat tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but David swivels and escapes.
Matmat dives in and grabs David's left leg, looking for a takedown. David pushes down on Matmat's head and hops out.
David throws the left hand but Matmat avoids the punch easily.
No luck for Matmat with that takedown attempt.
Xavier David has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mat Matmat.
Matmat fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but David avoids it really well and circles away.
Horrible takedown by Matmat or perhaps it was just good defense by David which made him look bad.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

David throws a big right hand that misses.
David will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

David stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matmat swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Matmat shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in David's guard.
