PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vic Lester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew WK (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vic Lester!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew WK!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lester misses with a series of wild punches.
WK swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lester misses with a wild body shot.
WK circles away from the clinch attempt.
WK misses with a hook. Lester ducked under it nicely.
WK lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Lester fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
WK fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Lester looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Lester throws a hook to the side of WK's head but WK sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lester thows a left - swing and a miss!
Lester on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
WK throws a series of punches but Lester avoids them all with ease.
Lester misses the body punch
and WK cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
WK throws a jab when Lester was well out of range.
Lester doesn't succeed with the takedown
and WK counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lester shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lester postures up.

WK looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lester has picked WK up and slammed him! WK can't keep hold of the triangle and Lester manages to pass to side control!
WK is trying to get back to half guard.
WK keeps Lester under control for a moment.
WK is looking for a sweep.
WK is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
WK can't do much from the bottom here.

WK tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lester wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lester pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by WK.

WK is trying to get an arm triangle but Lester is defending well.

WK wants to control but Lester is keeping him busy.

WK goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lester has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for WK but great work by Lester.

Lester stands up and beckons WK to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A bone on bone clash there as Lester blocks the leg kick.
WK lands a with a good body shot.
Lester misses with a jab to the body

so WK counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

WK is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lester is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lester has escaped and now he's on top!
WK looks gassed!

WK looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lester would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew WK dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lester is defended easily by WK.
WK cracks Lester with a good jab.
WK scores with the left hand. Lester knows he should have avoided that one.
Lester throws a left and a right that both miss
and WK counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lester takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Lester changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. WK tries to avoid it but Lester manages to keep hold of a leg and drag WK to the ground. WK escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

WK lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lester circles away quickly and effectively.
Lester lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Vic Lester is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
WK closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Lester cracks WK with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

WK gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lester to score an easy takedown into full guard.

WK has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

WK is looking for a triangle here but Lester uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
WK can't do much from the bottom here.
WK tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Lester decides to stand back up. Lester steps back and let's WK get back to his feet.
WK avoids the body shot from Lester.

Lester is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in WK's half guard.
Lester is keen to just control but WK is a slippery customer.
WK wants to control but Lester is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lester wants to stand up but WK is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

WK is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lester pulls his head out easily.
WK is looking to control Lester's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can WK avoid being mounted?

Lester gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Lester is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in WK's half guard.
Lester tries to stand and escape but WK is controlling the position.
WK wants to control but Lester is keeping busy and won't allow it.

WK actively working from the bottom here.
WK is breathing heavily.
WK tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Lester has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vic Lester dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


WK missing with a left hand there. Lester was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
WK looks to land a combination. Lester sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Lester shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and WK counters with a one-two to the body.
WK misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lester.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lester shoots in for a double leg but WK sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

WK might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

and WK makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
WK shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Lester uses good head movement to avoid the hook from WK.

WK is looking to take a break and control but Lester is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lester managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by WK.
Lester takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

WK is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lester has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lester is looking to reverse the position.

WK is looking to take a break and control but Lester is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

WK is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lester is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
WK wants to take a breather but Lester manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for WK.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andrew WK comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think WK has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
