PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Stith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Mountain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stith comes to the cage accompanied by target=blank>Numa Numa . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Stith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Mountain!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stith fails to land the takedown.
Stith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mountain but Mountain pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mountain shoots in and drives through. Stith sprawls well.
Mountain swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stith with a poor takedown

and Mountain counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Stith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mountain is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mountain tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stith knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mountain passes to side control.
Mountain wants to control but Stith is keeping him busy.

Mountain working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Mountain swings around for an armbar but Stith sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mountain's guard.

Stith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mountain, up you get!
Mountain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stith but Stith pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stith throws a series of punches but Mountain moves out of range.

and Mountain counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stith's guard now.
Mountain controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Stith keeping moving, preventing Mountain from controlling successfully.

Mountain drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mountain jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mountain looks gassed!
Mountain won't allow Stith to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stith keeping full guard, as Mountain tries to pass.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mountain looking to sit in guard and control but Stith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stith tries to stand but Mountain is controlling from the bottom.

Mountain is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stith is aware though and is defending well.
Stith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stith is looking to stand up but Mountain won't let him.
Stith stopping the sweep attempt from Mountain.
Stith wants to stand and escape but instead Mountain has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Mountain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mountain trying to control the position from guard on top but Stith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mountain tries to free his leg and advance position but Stith is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Mountain throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stith was covering up waiting for the punch and Mountain finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Stith wants to stand and escape but Mountain is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Mountain dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mountain tries to free his leg and advance position but Stith is retaining full guard.
Mountain advances to half guard.
Mountain is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Mountain is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Mountain is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Stith won't allow Mountain to pass to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mountain seems to be looking for submissions.
Tom Mountain has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mountain trying to control the pace.
Mountain prevents Stith from standing back up.

Mountain looking for a submission but Stith manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Mountain slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mountain controls the position from side control.

Mountain has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Stith is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mountain yanks on the arm and Stith is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mountain.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tom Mountain!
