Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurt Summers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greko Roman! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Summers moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Roman misses with a takedown attempt - Summers sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Roman has eaten all the pies! Summers lands with a nice body punch. Summers throws a head kick that misses. Summers thuds his right hand into Roman's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Summers clobbers Roman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Summers cracks Roman with a good jab. Roman moves forwards but Summers connects with a nice, crisp jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Roman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Summers avoids it really well and circles away. Summers connects with a good right hand that stumbles Roman. Roman circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. An inside leg kick lands from Summers. Summers lands a jab. Roman is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Summers. Roman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Summers circles away. Kurt Summers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greko Roman. Summers swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Roman. Roman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Summers swivels and escapes. Roman looks gassed! Summers bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Roman's head.
It looks like Greko Roman has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Summers sprawls well. Summers wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roman gets slowly back to his feet. Summers tries a head kick but it misses.
Summers digs a good body shot into Roman's ribs. Roman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Roman on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Roman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Summers rushes Roman with punches - Roman moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Roman goes down! Summers follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kurt Summers!
