Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, jimmy petersen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, chris stevens! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! stevens fails to land with a series of punches.
stevens tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but petersen paws at him with a jab and circles away. No luck for petersen with that takedown attempt. stevens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. petersen fails to land the takedown. stevens tries to clinch but petersen is having none of it. petersen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. stevens dodges the ground and pound from petersen. petersen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by stevens, who protects the arm well. petersen decides to take the fight back to the feet. stevens looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. petersen closes the distance and clinches. stevens is trying to break the clinch but petersen has him pressed against the cage. petersen has stevens pressed against the cage, preventing stevens from circling away and getting back to striking at range. petersen prevents stevens from breaking the clinch. A frustrated look appears on stevens's face as he tries to break the clinch. petersen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite stevens's efforts to push away. stevens avoids a wild elbow strike from petersen. stevens is trying to force a seperation but petersen has the dominant position. stevens is pressed up against the cage. petersen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag stevens down to the mat. stevens avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for jimmy petersen. That's going to take a lot out of him. stevens clinches but petersen breaks the clinch and petersen counters into the clinch. Nicely done. stevens tries to circle away but petersen has him pinned against the cage. petersen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. stevens fights it off and pushes away nicely.

He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in stevens's half guard. stevens has hold of petersen's hands but petersen slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. This has been an exciting period of action! petersen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, stevens has managed to free his arm - good work. petersen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. petersen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. petersen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. petersen decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. petersen pushes stevens away with a front kick. petersen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from petersen. stevens tries to clinch but petersen moves away and petersen counters with a nice double leg into side control. stevens won't be happy with that. stevens is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but petersen has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. petersen moves into full mount! petersen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. petersen lands a heavy elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That could mean trouble for stevens! petersen jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… stevens is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by stevens and petersen has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
petersen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. stevens is trying to buck petersen off. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. petersen decides to stand back up. petersen steps back and let's stevens get back to his feet. petersen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A right-left combo lands from stevens. petersen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. stevens swats away the attempt to clinch by petersen. stevens wants to clinch and petersen counters with a nice double leg into guard. petersen trying to control the position from guard on top but stevens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. petersen landing some decent shots from guard. jimmy petersen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. stevens wants to stand and escape but petersen is having none of it. petersen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. petersen trying to control but stevens is working from the bottom. stevens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with petersen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. stevens is working an open guard so petersen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. stevens clinches but petersen breaks the clinch and petersen counters with a single leg into guard. stevens didn't expect that. stevens has his feet on petersen's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. stevens wants to clinch but petersen slips to the side and petersen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in stevens's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. stevens wants to stand and escape but petersen is having none of it. petersen trying to control the position from guard on top but stevens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. petersen tries to free his leg and advance position but stevens is retaining full guard. petersen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. petersen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. petersen clinches up against the cage. stevens wants to get back to striking at distance but petersen won't allow it.

petersen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with stevens but stevens pushes him off and we're back to square one. petersen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. stevens sprawls well initially but petersen persists and gets the takedown into half guard. stevens tries to kick petersen off but petersen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for stevens. petersen is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! stevens has taken the fight to the clinch.
petersen jumps guard but stevens stands there with petersen around his waist. petersen gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. stevens wants to stand but petersen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. stevens works his way back into a safe position though. petersen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. stevens gets to his feet. petersen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! stevens tries to clinch but petersen moves away so petersen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. stevens can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as petersen controls the pace. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. petersen stops stevens from standing up.
And that's the end of the fight! jimmy petersen showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for petersen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
