Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Edman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edman is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Knockout. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Max Payne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Edman! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edman is looking to clinch but Payne is avoiding it.
Edman clinches with his opponent.
Edman throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Paynes head. Edman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Edman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Payne, pushing him back against the cage. Edman lands a right hand. Edman softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Payne taking a breather. Edman tightens his grip and picks Payne up, before dumping him to the ground. Payne manages to land in guard. Edman throws a big right hand that misses. Edman works a leg free and moves into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edman prevents Payne from improving his position. Payne avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Edman. Edman missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Payne is staying active underneath Edman, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edman stalling. Edman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Payne keeps working. Edman looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Edman missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Payne tries to close the distance and clinch but Edman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Payne tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Payne somewhat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Payne slips a jab and a cross from Edman.
Edman has his takedown stuffed and Payne moves into the clinch. Edman stalling against the cage.
Payne wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Payne breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Edman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Payne controlling the position for now. Edman is looking to advance position but Payne won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edman missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Edman works his way into full mount! Payne sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Edman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Edman connects with a nice short shot to Payne's temple. Edman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Payne does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Edman looks gassed! Payne slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Payne wants to stand but Edman is controlling the position. Payne tries to land a sweep but no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Edman dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Payne gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Edman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Payne! Payne is looking to get to half guard. Edman with shots to the head and body - Payne looks very uncomfortable down there. Edman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Payne manages to avoid the submission attempt. Edman working the ground and pound. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Payne managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Edman.
That's one minute gone in the round. Payne is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Edman's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Edman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Payne has managed to free his arm - good work. Payne is trying to get back to full guard. Edman is looking to take a break and control but Payne is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Edman tries to pass to full mount but Payne defends it. Edman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Edman working over Payne with some ground and pound. Payne looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Payne taking some punishment here, with Edman in his half guard. Payne is looking to control Edman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Payne avoid being mounted? Payne pushes Edman off looking to stand but Edman dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Payne blocking the ground and pound attempt from Edman. Edman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Edman is thwarting Payne's attempts to control the position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Edman lands a nice short elbow. Edman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Edman stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Payne to get to his feet. Edman fails with the takedown and Payne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Edman won't be happy with that.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Payne fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Payne in side control, throwing shots but Edman defends. Edman prevents Payne from moving into mount. Sloppy strikes there by Payne. Edman explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Payne lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Edman buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Payne throws a sloppy head kick and Edman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Payne's guard. Edman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Edman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Edman trying to control but Payne is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Edman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Edman thumps Payne with a low kick. Payne throws a right hand that Edman ducks under and follows up with a left that Edman also avoids with ease. Edman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Payne did well to prevent Edman getting side control. Edman not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Edman prevents Payne from improving his position. Edman is controlling the pace.
Edman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edman moves nicely into side control. James Edman has got the better of the ground game so far. Payne tries to improve position but can't. Edman moves into full mount! Edman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Payne's face.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Edman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Edman putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Edman is landing with some decent strikes but Payne is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Edman in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Edman throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Payne has his hands clasped together but Edman breaks the hold and Payne is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Edman!
