PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matty P (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matty P!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

P darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
P thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.
P throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Silva punching from the bottom.
Silva is pressing down on P's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Silva wants to stand and escape but P is having none of it.
Silva preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
P trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

P has momentary wrist control but Silva slips an elbow through the middle.
P controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
P is looking to sweep but instead, Silva has passed into half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
P tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg.

P looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. P did well to prevent Silva getting side control.
P wants to improve his position but Silva is controlling well.

Silva decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
P is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.

Silva gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. P is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

P manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva wants to pass the guard but P is keeping the position.

Silva postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Silva passes into half guard.
P wants to control but Silva is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Silva wants to take a breather but P is having none of it.
Silva stops P from getting back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Silva seems content to control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Silva is just content to waste time from the top position. P takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Silva gets to his feet - P follows without any prompting.
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. P defends it nicely.
P misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

P bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

P lands an elbow.
Silva takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Silva tries to buck P off but P is having none of it.
Silva manages to work his way to half guard, despite P's best efforts.
Silva tries to roll over but P keeps him under control.
P is thwarting Silva's attempts to control the position.
Silva is looking to improve his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
P scoring with strikes but Silva is staying in there.
P lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Silva hang on?
P with a couple of short strikes.
Silva tries to hold on but P postures up.
P punishing his opponent with strikes.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anderson Silva will probably get the nod.
That's time! Silva's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

P keeps the fight on the outside.
P tries to clinch but Silva moves out of range.
P defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Silva.
Silva fails to land with a series of punches.
Nice sprawl there from Silva as P shoots in.

Silva gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows P to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
P is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Silva scores with a couple of nice shots.
Matty P has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

P uses the cage to get back to his feet.

P drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Silva looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. P is aware though and is defending well.
P in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
P has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
P throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

P can't keep his opponent in guard - Silva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

P throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Silva was covering up waiting for the punch and P finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

P is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Silva is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Silva has escaped and now he's on top!

Silva gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
