Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doctor Pepper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Powers. No joy for Pepper on that attempt. Pepper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Powers looks to land a left hand but Pepper moved out of range nicely. Powers throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Powers throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pepper. Pepper closes the distance and clinches up with Powers, looking for a takedown. Pepper pushes Powers against the cage but Powers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Jerome Powers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doctor Pepper. Pepper closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Powers is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pepper's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Powers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Powers looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Pepper takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Pepper thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powers's head. Pepper makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Powers has his foot on Pepper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pepper works his way back into a safe position though. Pepper avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Powers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pepper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pepper distracts Powers with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Pepper trying to control the position from guard on top but Powers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Powers wants to sweep but no luck. Pepper chips away with some ground and pound. Pepper lands a couple of digs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pepper got a little sloppy there for a moment and Powers has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pepper has managed to get both his arms back between Powers's legs - danger averted. Pepper wants to pass the guard but Powers is keeping the position. Powers looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pepper passes Powers's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Powers taking some punishment here, with Pepper in his half guard. Powers looking for submissions off his back. Ground and pound from Pepper. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pepper lands a nice short elbow. Pepper is nestled in close to Powers, controlling him well. That was a close round but I would say that Jerome Powers will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Powers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Doctor Pepper has got the better of the ground game so far. Pepper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Powers swivels though and keeps the full guard. Powers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pepper is controlling him. Pepper makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Good work there from Pepper! Powers pushes Pepper away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pepper gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Pepper looks up at the clock and then as Powers takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Pepper smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Powers is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Powers is working for an americana but Pepper has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Powers was thinking about the submission.
