Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Con! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jan Steel! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel misses with a double jab.
Steel jabbing away but nothing is landing. Steel looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Con fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Con changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Steel looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Steel taking punishment in the form of punches.
Con is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Steel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Con has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Con avoids the body shot from Steel.
Con drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Con wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving. Con landing some decent shots from guard. Con really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Con is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Con advances position into side control! Con is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Con passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Steel! Steel defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Con. Steel defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Con. Con wants to get back to his feet but Steel is holding on tight.
Con stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Con wants to land a leg kick but Steel is out of range. Martin Con seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Con looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Con tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Steel swivels and escapes. Con tries for a takedown but Steel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Con. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Con looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Steel is fending him off so far but Con persists. Nope, Steel circles away and we're back to standing. Con feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Steel wants to stand and escape. He's got his foot on Con's hips, looking to push off. But Con grabs a hold of the leg and drops back for an ankle lock! It's hard to tell if he's got it. Both fighters look composed - OH, not anymore they don't! Steel screams like a kid who's trapped his fingers in the car door and taps out! Yikes, that must have hurt - hopefully it's not snapped anything!
