Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rory Shachner! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Escro Maddox! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shachner avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Shachner really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... Maddox tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Maddox dodges the punch combination from Shachner.
A leg kick checked by Maddox. Maddox closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shachner circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maddox misses with a combination
so Shachner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Shachner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Maddox not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maddox thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Shachner with a flurry of punches that miss. Shachner wants to pass the guard but Maddox is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maddox seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Maddox working for a triangle but Shachner defends it easily.
Maddox looks gassed! Shachner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shachner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Maddox keeping moving, preventing Shachner from controlling successfully.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Shachner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Shachner trying to control from half guard but Maddox is working away. Maddox trying to control but Shachner postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shachner seems to be working for a kimura but Maddox defends the submission attempt. Maddox controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maddox's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Shachner could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Maddox is refusing to be controlled, as Shachner sits in half guard. Maddox is positioning himself well to prevent Shachner advancing to mount. Shachner works his way into full mount! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shachner pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shachner is looking to chop away at Maddox's legs. Maddox closes the distance but Shachner moves to the side and Shachner counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Shachner has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Maddox defend it? Shachner steps over the head and cranks it - Maddox is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Shachner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rory Shachner! Rory Shachner retains his lightweight title!
