PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Jupiter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renaissance Smalls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Jupiter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Renaissance Smalls!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jupiter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smalls swivels and escapes.
Jupiter closes the distance and clinches up with Smalls, looking for a takedown. Jupiter pushes Smalls against the cage but Smalls circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smalls scores with a kick to the body.
Smalls avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jupiter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Jupiter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smalls changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jupiter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Smalls tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smalls has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jupiter feints and as Smalls raises his hands in defense, Jupiter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Smalls had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jupiter is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Smalls Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jupiter's back instead.

Smalls is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jupiter is defending well though. Smalls let's go of the attempt for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jupiter is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Smalls gets his way!

Jupiter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smalls doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smalls manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Renaissance Smalls comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smalls has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
