PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aoki Sudo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Aoki Sudo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aoki Sudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Powers!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sudo tries to clinch up but Powers circles away and keeps his distance.
Sudo tries to clinch but Powers is having none of it.

Sudo drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sudo is controlling him.
Sudo tries to free his leg and advance position but Powers is retaining full guard.

Sudo wants to pass the guard but Powers is keeping the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Powers can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sudo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Powers is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sudo, into his guard.

Powers slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Powers stands up over Sudo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sudo lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Powers!
Powers is wriggling around trying to escape.

Sudo jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Powers is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Powers and Sudo has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers tries to bench press Sudo off him but Sudo keeps the position.

Powers gets back to half guard.
Sudo is stalling here. Powers is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sudo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Powers has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Sudo tries to bench press Powers off him but Powers keeps the position.
Powers grinds an elbow into Sudo's temple.

Sudo is breathing heavily.
Sudo is trying to escape the position but Powers is controlling the position.

Powers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sudo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, if Powers is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Powers looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Powers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Powers scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sudo to see if he's OK.
Sudo can't do much from the bottom here.

Powers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sudo, who protects the arm well.

Powers drops back looking for a leg! Sudo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sudo manages to kick Powers off! Powers jumps back into Sudo's guard.

Powers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Powers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Powers trying to control the position from guard on top but Sudo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Powers stays in close to Sudo's body and controls the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sudo keeping moving, preventing Powers from controlling successfully.

Despite being in the dominant position, Max Powers just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Powers throws a leg kick that misses.

Sudo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Powers to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
