Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Beat You Down. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gracie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Peterson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peterson is working away from the top position though.
Peterson is trying to control the action in half guard but Gracie is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Peterson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Gracie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Peterson.
Gracie is not content to let Peterson control the position.
Gracie tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Peterson is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.

Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Gracie is working for takedown but Peterson is calmly controlling the position for now.

Gracie takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gracie drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Peterson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Peterson's guard.

Gracie is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Peterson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Peterson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mike Peterson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Peterson as he jumps to the side.
Mike Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Helio Gracie.

Peterson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gracie's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gracie's back!

Peterson is controlling the position but Gracie somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Peterson thows a huge punch but Gracie dodges it nicely.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Peterson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Peterson clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.

Peterson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Peterson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Peterson wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mike Peterson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Peterson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
